The IET office started operations in India in 2006, in Bangalore. Today, we have over 10,000 members and have the largest membership base for the IET outside of the UK. Our vision is to become the most relevant and therefore the most preferred institution for engineering and technology professionals in India.
Relevance is key
We want to demonstrate relevance to India and its growth in the 21st century and facilitate in problem solving of issues relevant to India.
India Strategy for 2015 - 2017
With guidance from the India Development Panel and the Communities Committee South Asia (CCSA), we now have a clear strategy that will focus on building value and sustainability. Sustainable growth for India will come from having robust engagement opportunities and by being absolutely relevant to this country. In the next three years, we will strengthen our focus on the Energy, Transport and Education sectors that will ultimately lead to our strategic goals, where in:
The IET will be recognised in India as a meeting place for sector leaders to interact and support standards, policy and innovation in order to position the IET as a thought leader.
The IET will deliver practical skills to the Indian education system, combined with an influential role in improving engineering educational standards through accreditation and the leveraging of industry relations.
We invite Members and volunteers to join and help us in this value creation. This will involve working closely with stakeholders in the government, industry and the academia; facilitate the involvement of subject matter experts and leaders to provide sector guidance, insights, knowledge and deep intelligence; provide the crucial connect between industry and academia; support the teaching of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects in schools and work to help India in its endeavours to achieve excellence in Technical Education.
